Our family went there last night for my uncle’s 60th birthday. We had been a couple of times before and wanted to go back for the atmosphere. It’s such a cute spot, especially in the summer. No issues with the waitress, she was friendly. The food is where it gets confusing. Smelled great. Looked great. Portions were large. We all got different dishes; soup of the day, dinner special, burger, pastas, portobello chicken, wraps and salad. My chicken was erring between cooked and not. It was weird to chew. I ended up taking it home to reheat and cook a bit longer. But out of 9 guests that attended last night, 7 of us have had really upset stomachs. Time ranging from an hour after eating to symptoms appearing this morning. Don’t get me wrong, I really do enjoy this place, and totally recommend it… if the kitchen staff working last night really stepped up to the plate. Not cool.
I want to give this restaurant 5 stars because it was super cute. A quaint old house, a wonderful server and the “experimental” aspect of the menu was fun. However, the food really wasn’t that great. I ordered the enchiladas and they were dry and had a very strange flavour. My Caesar salad was so garlicky I could barely eat it - and I love garlic! My husband ordered the burger and it was “forgettable” according to him. The experimental drink was a fun touch. The peanut butter cheesecake for dessert was delicious and the best part of our meal. I would definitely give it another shot in the summer to experience the patio, order an experimental drink and eat that cheesecake again though!
I've been here many times but it has been little while since I've been there. The patio is very inviting, especially in spring with the magnolia trees that canopy the patio. The food was great, I had a sweet potato quesadilla with their famous house salad. The portions are generous and by todays' standards, the dishes are priced economically. It was a Thursday at lunch hour with a full patio as well as several tables inside. Everything was great except the restaurant only had one server on! She really managed all of the tables as well as she could but I was stressed watching her hustle. I feel the restaurant really should have scheduled 2 people over the lunch hour.
Services 2/10 Food 7/10 Portion sizes 10/10 Patio 10/10 I couldn't believe how rude our server was to us (and to other guests). We waited too long to have our order taken, and asked another server to grab our waitress. She arrived and said "what, are you in a rush?" When we stayed that we were just ready to order she said "you reservation was a really for six but you showed up early". This was not the case, we had adjusted our reservation hours ago. Even if that had been the case, that's not how you handle that. We were on the patio (which was great) but we then had the opportunity to hear her unpleasantly bark at other potential patrons saying that they had no tables available. One couple walked up and asked to see the menu, and rudely said to them (3 times) that there were no tables. The couples still wanted to look at the menu as they live nearby and may be back another night. She was so short with them and treated this request as extremely inconvenient. The couple walked away shocked (but laughing) about how rude she had been to them. The table next to us was also taken aback when - seconds after being handed menus - they were asked if they were in a rush. They even asked the server why she asked them that question when they felt they had not given indication that they were in a rush. She offered an explanation that I did not hear. There serverice was enough to ensure that we will not be returning customer.
Checked this place out based on reviews. Sadly we were disappointed. While the food was great the atmosphere was odd. You enter immediately into the dining area which created some confusion for new patrons and also a cold dining room for those eating. There was no sign stating 'wait to be seated' which made you feel you were entering through the wrong door. We had to look around for a staff member. Our server was extremely slow. We were given menus promptly but not offered beverages or told the specials until we were asked if we were ready to order. Perhaps it was an off day for the staff but I wouldn't recommend this location if you are looking for a cozy lunch.
This is hands down one of the best restaurants in Guelph. Just re-opened and the food is as good as it ever was, maybe even better. Rocky and his team make incredible food and for a very reasonable price for what you get. This place is a MUST try, everything on the menu is top tier. Do yourself a favour, and try them out today!
