Fairly good selection, but very project oriented. (You'll get help if you're renovating your kitchen, but will struggle to get attention if your just replacing a faucet). Most employees are young and just shelf stocker. Very few experienced employees on the floor.
I have repeatedly come here for many of my renovs: bathrooms, hardwoods, ceramics, etc ... and have always been impressed with the excellent and friendly customer services I received. Although, it is not as big as the other hardware stores. This is a plus since i don't have to walk miles and miles inside the store before I find someone to help me. I can order almost everything I need via the order desk. Most of the time, they even honor the current promotions for special order items. Peter in the bath/kitchen order desk is knowledgeable and very helpful. Much appreciate the helps i received from this place many times.
Recently we have been completely renovating a condo we bought in Guelph. Looking for a bathroom vanity we went into our local Rona store at 55, Dawson Rd. and bought one we liked. We then got into a conversation about a countertop for it and one thing led to another. We ended up buying all our flooring, bathroom fixtures, taps and supplies for a custom built shower. We intended to just put in an easy one piece acrylic shower but Peter in the kitchen and bath area advised us that if we installed a custom shower with a wide glass door we would be able to have help getting into and out of the shower enabling us to stay longer in our condo if either of us became less mobile. It was great advice for a couple in their mid seventies and we took it. Peter has a good eye for matching up vanities with counter tops and flooring. We have never renovated before and the help we have been given by the team of Peter, Larry, Dave, Deb and Sharon has been wonderful so all our dollars gone to supporting a local business. We would also like to mention our contractor Alex of Woodlands Contracting. He has done an excellent job of all our painting, flooring, tiling and installing a new ceiling in our kitchen. He is a very pleasant young man who pays attention to detail and has accommodated our changes in depth of colour by calling us to come over and see how one wall looked before painting the whole room. We count ourselves very fortunate to find such a professional tradesman.F Forbes
If we could give this place zero stars, we would. My husband and I came from out of town, looking for a screen door and from the moment we got in, we received the worst customer service weve ever experienced. No one offered to help us, despite the fact that we wandered around the screen door aisle aimlessly for several minutes. I should mention that the store was NOT busy; we finally sought out help from the staff and found them all chatting amongst themselves behind the customer service desk. My husband had to go as far as ask someone to come along to the correct department... weve been doing renovations on our cottage for two years and have been to many home improvement stores during this time. Not once have we ever been treated as poorly as we were today. Not only did the staff members on site seem unknowledgeable (no one could elaborate on any of the products we were asking about or offer up any alternatives), they were condescending and unfriendly. Two of them were so busy flirting with each other, they wouldnt have noticed if anyone needed help to begin with. We finally decided to purchase one of the doors anyway, despite our unpleasant experience, and no one offered to help us take it off the shelf. Someone did grab us a cart, but thats about as far as the customer service experience went. We did all the heavy lifting. After we left the store, our contractor phoned us to let us know we would actually be needing a different size door. As we were already on our way to run our next errand, we thought we would stop by and exchange the product on our way back home. To be safe, my husband checked Ronas closing time and realized it closed at 6pm, which meant we had 8 minutes to get back to the store by the time we noticed! He left me at Costco so that he could race back to Rona with the door, and arrived at 5:58pm, only to find a young staff member locking up already. He politely asked if he could make one quick transaction since technically there were still 2 minutes to spare, but she would have none of it. As I said before, we are from out of town. We will now have to make a special trip to get back there tomorrow... only this time we will be returning all the products we purchased rather than just exchanging one. This lack of customer service is embarrassing and unacceptable. We will not be shopping at this Rona location ever again and will be sure not to recommend it to any of our friends or family.
This store has a great range of choice for whatever you need in hardware and general fix-it material. More importantly, the staff at the service desk know their stuff, and are friendly and approachable. I'm not terribly handy, and they've helped me solve a few problems, and find the right products.
